THE 17-DAY TOLL: 33 Medals vs. 300 Funerals

CITY, State — As the 2026 Winter Olympic Games in Milano-Cortina conclude, Team USA celebrates a historic haul of 33 medals. But while the nation cheered for 17 days of peak human performance, a silent, domestic tragedy was unfolding in the shadows of that same timeframe.

According to the most recent data, an average of 20+ veterans die by suicide or self-injury every single day. When viewed through the 17-day window of the Winter Games (February 6–22), the contrast is a national wake-up call:

  • 33 Medals Won: Total podium finishes by Team USA athletes.

  • 300+ Veterans Lost: The estimated number of U.S. Veterans who died by suicide during the same 17-day period.

"We take immense pride in the 33 medals our athletes brought home," says Clifford Emery, Founder of Delta Mu Theta. "But we cannot ignore that for every gold medal hung around an athlete's neck, 25 veteran families were handed a folded flag. Each medal represents a peak of achievement; each veteran lost represents a failure of a system that prioritizes 'further studies' over immediate, life-saving cures like Ibogaine and 5-MeO-DMT."

Delta Mu Theta is calling for the Million Strong to sign the mandate and demand that the VA utilize Community Care funds for treatments that work—today. We are finished waiting for the "next games" while the body count rises.  We want our petition count to be a MILLION STRONG, JOIN US AND SIGN.
